Year 1

In Year 1, we follow the national curriculum. This comprises of eleven subjects: English, Mathematics, Information and Communication Technology, History, Geography, Art and Design, Music, Design and Technology, P.E. and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education.

Curriculum Statement Autumn 2019

Reading

Children read in a guided group at least three times a week and one-to-one with a teacher at least once a fortnight. We also hold a daily phonics session with a focus on blending and segmenting words.
Children are expected to read daily at home with their parents.

Spellings

Spellings are tested on a Thursday. The spellings are incorporated into the handwriting practise for the week to ensure overlearning.
Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check is the method used for learning spellings.

Mathematics

Writing and forming digits correctly is a key focus alongside counting to 100. Beat That will cover number facts such as pairs of numbers that equal 10, 1 or 10 more or less than numbers to 10, doubles of numbers to 10 …
