Parents and Friends Association

When your child starts school you automatically become a member of the Parents and Friends Association – PFA for short.

An exciting calendar of activities is planned annually, which is run by the parents themselves, some of whom are members of the PFA Committee which meet monthly.  The staff and the governors, along with friends of the school, also get fully involved!  Being part of this great group of people can be fun and we really do have a laugh!  We don’t hold you to coming to meetings, or for your help, but just appreciate any time you have.

2015-present day (most recent first)

The RAG A BAG collection bin has moved.  The bin has been relocated to the small carpark on Vicarage Road to aid collection of the donations.  Please continue to drop off your bagged donations it’s only a short walk across the playground.

Are you part of the MSJ 100 club yet?  If not, why not make this the year you sign up and you could be one of the 3 winners every month. With 3rd prize being £12 that’s your years subscription straight back with just one third prize win.  Joining forms are available from the school office now.

Hair was shaken and hugs dished out at the Trolls DVD night.  A fantastic £538 was raised.  Thank you to everyone who helped out at this very busy event.

The PFA Easter bunny delivered an Easter treat to all children and £50 to every class teacher for them to spend on anything that will enhance your children’s learning.

Our Easter Cake raffle raised £74.10.  Thanks go once again to Vicky Davey who never fails to impress with her stunning cakes.

Discos in October 2016 and February 2017 were well attended with dancing shoes donned and monies raised.  Our Christmas Fayre raised just shy of last years total and we thank everyone for their understanding when Santa was delayed due to air traffic control!

Throughout the 2015-2016 academic year all monies raised went to the SOS fundraising appeal.  Save our Swimming Pool.  Together the pupils, parents, carers, staff and Pfa raised over £30k in order for a complete renovation of the pool.  What an awesome team effort GO TEAM MSJ !

Starting our ice creams Fridays earlier than usual has meant serving in all sorts of weather but to date we have sold 554 ice creams raising £277.  Please consider a 50p Friday treat for you and your children, you’ll find us under the shelters in both playgrounds (weather permitting).

Our Spring Disco raised £403.  Thanks to all those who came and had a boogie and the team of helpers.

Congratulations to the winner of the IPad donated by Liverpool Victoria.  The raffle raised a fantastic £454.

Whilst not a PFA event we have to mention the Sponsored Swim which to date has seen a staggering £6500 sponsorship brought in to school.  A HUGE well done to all those who swam and thank you to all those who helped make the day the success it was.

Our Easter Eggstravaganza raised £273 with all children invited to play easter themed games during the afternoon and Easter Cake Raffle raised £139. Congratulations to Mrs Faulkner the winner.  Our thanks go to the CoOps in Ensbury Park and Moordown and Tesco Winton for their chocolate donations and of course to Vicky Davey for the stunning cake.

Our Valentines Disco raised £310. Thanks to all those who came and had a boogie and the team of helpers.

The second hand toy sale on the last day of term raised £40 and the wonderful Minion Christmas cake raffle £85.  A huge thanks to Vicky Davey for another amazing cake.

The Christmas Fayre was a wonderful evening and we raised £2349, just shy of last years total.  It was noted by some that mulled wine was unavailable this year.  This was simply due to not enough volunteers being available and the wine not proving as popular as anticipated the previous year so it was ‘dropped’.  Please remember that even an hour of your time at an event can make such a difference in what the PFA can and can’t provide.

Our first meeting of this academic year saw some new faces round the table which was fantastic. We offer sincere thanks to the teams of volunteers who helped out in so many ways and those who supported last years calendar of events and look forward to working with you and those new to the school during this years. A new Chair was elected in Maria Scrivener and the new treasurer is Denise Pearce.  Claire Brown remains as Vice Chair and Julie Mitchell as Secretary.  As yet no requests have come from the school for support, we anticipate these being tabled at the next meeting.

With your support over the last few years the PFA has funded and/or made major contributions towards a variety of items for the school and it’s pupils, including:

  • A deeper swimming pool through SOS fundraising appeal with the whole school
  • Shelters for sports and other outdoor events
  • Field regeneration and a Multi Use Games Area (Muga)
  • Providing a new Hippo bin for KS1 playground
  • Providing monies towards pupil badges (Choir, Orchestra, Y6 job roles)
  • Subsidised Y3 & Y4 Planetarium visit
  • Resources for the new Y6 Government Maths and English tests and SAT preparation
  • Subsidised 2 Key Stage performances- Frog Prince and Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe
  • Providing monies as requested for new and current topic books supporting age appropriate reading for those not reading at the reading level of their age. (total to date £2250)
  • Purchase of TWO school mini buses (and ongoing running expenses annually)
  • Television and DVD player combination unit
  • Individual classroom digital cameras
  • Web cameras
  • Reception year TUFF cameras
  • New play kitchen for reception year
  • Licenses for new Maths Sphere programmes
