Our Year 4 children visited the local Synagogue to help them learn about Judaism. They found out that the men and women usually sit separately so they have no distractions whilst they are praying. Their holy book is called the ‘Torah’ which is kept inside the ‘Ark’. No one is allowed to touch the Torah, so a special pointer called a ‘yad’ is used to follow words when reading it. Men have to cover their heads and worship usually takes place in ‘Herbrew’. We also learnt about special festivals including ‘Passover’ and ‘Hannukah’. The symbol of Judaism is the ‘Star of David’ and we had a little competition to see how many stars we could find around the Synagogue.
