As part of their topic on ‘The Great Fire of London,’ year 2 went to visit the local fire station. They learnt why the fire in 1666 spread so quickly and how the fire was fought and finally put out. They re-enacted the scene by forming lines and passing buckets of water to each other before filling up a large bucket at the end. It took them quite a long time to fill up the big bucket and afterwards the fireman showed them how quickly they could fill the same bucket with their high powered hose.
They also got a chance to look around the fire engine and most importantly learn what they should do in the event of a fire at home.
