Spelling Shed
‘Spelling Shed’ is a fun online package designed to help children practise their spellings in an engaging way.
On Spelling Shed, your child’s class teacher will set their weekly spelling list under the assignment (homework) mode.
In addition to this, your child will also have access to a range of other lists linked to the National Curriculum objectives for their year group and lists uploaded by their teacher which link to class work.
The package has a ‘practice mode’ where the children can select a list and practise to build up their overall ‘shed score’. It also comprises of other interactive games, such as ‘bee keeper’ and ‘buzz’. The package has four different difficulty modes to choose from. As part of the package, the children earn coins for their overall earnings balance and improve their ‘shed score’ and status. The scores achieved give a league position and each class has its own league position within a school league and a world league. The package allows teachers to track activity and word competence over time.
Spelling Shed can be accessed using the web address https://play.spellingshed.com.
Your child has been assigned a username and password which will be recorded in their reading log/homework book and can also be found on your Welcome letter.
We recommend that your child practises their spellings as often as they can – short bursts of daily practice is most effective! Spelling Shed is just one way in which your child can practise their spellings. Please may we also stress the importance of the children exploring word meanings and practising their words within the context of a sentence.
We encourage you to utilise this excellent resource at home.
